STUDY ABROAD JAPAN 2007 PHOTO ALBUM:

Field Trips at Niigata Japan . . .

Aizu Wakamatsu Castle: 14th Century castle, located at Aizu Wakamatsu city, a 2 hour driving from Shibata, Niigata.  Also near was traditional Samurai house of 14th Century.

Local School Visits (HU/SS 399): enthusiastic welcome from local students.  The program includes visiting elementary, junior high, and high school of the local Shibata city.

Tsukioka Hot Springs: a special local event “Syuten Touji” is a combined hot springs and tastings of “sake” (Japanese Rice Wine).  They are (at this point) have done 10 cups of sake already . . .

Shinano River Water Shuttle: Japan’s largest river “Shinano” offers waterfront view and great boat rides.  The river runs through downtown Niigata city.

Shirane Jumbo Kite Festival: Japan’s oldest (and perhaps most violent) jumbo kite “battle” festival.  People run around and “battle” with jumbo kite on-air.  After the kite is dropped on the ground, a “tag-of-war” continues.  Watch out!
